I Was Put on Psychiatric Drugs at 7…I’m Still Paying the Price | Danielle Gansky
"My parents were never given the information needed to make a truly informed decision on my behalf. So my entire brain development happened under the influence of psychiatric drugs. No one told my parents that the long-term effects of anti-depressants on the developing brain had never been properly studied and it's really unknown and essentially we're conducting a mass experiment on children's developing brains with little understanding of the long-term consequences."
Gansky argues her parents did not receive what she considers adequate risk information when she was medicated as a child, and claims long-term effects on developing brains were not properly studied. She characterises widespread paediatric prescribing as an uncontrolled experiment, a framing that is disputed within psychiatry and regulation.
