Former Conservative minister Johnny Mercer recounts being told by the chief whip that Boris Johnson wanted him out of government, and refusing to resign unless he was explicitly sacked. Mercer says he then received a Sky News alert — via a text from his wife Felicity — saying he had been sacked, before the chief whip confirmed it and Johnson phoned him appearing unaware of the decision.
