John McPhee Was Sent on a Suicide Mission?
What was said
"He looked me in the face and he was like, "You know, we'll cover your ass." And I was just like, "This [ __ ] just lied to me. He looked me in my eye and [ __ ] lied to me.""
Former special operations serviceman John McPhee recounts being told to go out alone to “find this guy”, saying he did not realise he could refuse a task he viewed as too dangerous. He says he asked for assurance of cover while operating solo, but immediately believed the promise was untrue, describing it as a lie to his face. McPhee places the episode around moving through safe houses in Jalalabad and acquiring local clothing before heading out.
