Former special operations serviceman John McPhee recounts being told to go out alone to “find this guy”, saying he did not realise he could refuse a task he viewed as too dangerous. He says he asked for assurance of cover while operating solo, but immediately believed the promise was untrue, describing it as a lie to his face.
