"We were lucky enough to get our first hatchling of this really endangered tortoise right when we finished the show and so we filmed it and it made it into the end of the show. But it's a story about the reptile trade and this was a story in the end of the show about a confiscated group of animals that came from the reptile trade."
Eric Goode says his conservation work produced a ploughshare tortoise hatchling after roughly 15 years of attempts with animals confiscated in Asia. He describes the species as among the most valuable reptiles in the pet trade, and says the project aims to return captive-bred animals to Madagascar despite risks of renewed poaching.
