Trewley Precious says she deliberately avoided familiar reality-TV tropes about Gypsy and Traveller life when developing Secret Lives of Gypsy Wives. She argues earlier programmes—naming Big Fat Gypsy Weddings—did damage, and claims she is now receiving backlash for trying not to reproduce stereotypes.
