“Considerable expertise” on Iran in US Gov “NOT being tapped” - Former U.S. Ambassador Puneet Talwar
"Now, we're not talking about just one strategic waterway. We're talking about a second. the outlet the Saudis had been diverting using their east west pipeline uh to avoid the straight of Hormuz. They were shipping to a port on the Red Sea called Yangbu and not shipping as much out but a significant sum. I think probably four to 5 million barrels were making it there."
Discussing Houthi attacks and a declared blockade on Saudi shipping, Puneet Talwar says the escalation adds pressure by threatening an alternative Saudi export route used to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. He estimates 4–5 million barrels had been moving via the east-west pipeline to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, and says renewed disruption increases the risk of miscalculation and wider regional escalation.
