"The agreement could help revitalize the US nuclear industry, strengthen US-Saudi ties, and deny Russia and China a strategically important role in the Saudi nuclear program. But unless it contains adequate constraints, including on enrichment, it could increase nuclear proliferation risks in the Middle East and beyond."
Host Dave Rubin reports that President Donald Trump has approved a 30-year civilian nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia, described as worth tens of billions of dollars and structured to prioritise US vendors while limiting Russian and Chinese involvement. Rubin says the framework includes a two-year joint study on whether enrichment inside Saudi Arabia makes commercial sense, with a proposed US-built “black box” arrangement to prevent sensitive technology transfer and a reported 10-year bar on Saudi enrichment with any partner if the US objects after the study.
