"The McGregor that fought Aldo, that young starved wolf, he had nothing and he wanted everything. And he almost looked feral. That McGregor was a super McGregor. That was the superpower. I think all the money and success and fame and fortune took that starvation away which was so vital to his edge because his fight style has always been risky. He was willing to die in there. And I just think he didn't have that anymore."
Whittaker analyzed Conor McGregor's UFC 303 loss, attributing it to the loss of hunger that defined his prime years. He noted that McGregor's aggressive, high-risk style relied on a willingness to "risk it all" that wealth and success inevitably eroded. Whittaker suggested McGregor needed to find a new motivating factor but hadn't identified what that was yet.
