"If I keep telling myself that, that nothing's going to be okay, like, why am I saying that? You know, am I so afraid that nothing's going to be okay that I'm trying to save myself from the shock of nothing being okay? Maybe, right? Maybe that's going on. Am I just so afraid about something? You know, something happened in the past, someone was hurt, or there was a loss, and now the intrusive thoughts tell me that things can't be okay."
Dr. Conti explains that repetitive intrusive thoughts are not random but represent the mind's attempt to process unresolved experiences or losses. Many people experience these thoughts hundreds of times daily without awareness, creating an underlying anxiety that colors their entire worldview. Recognizing and understanding the meaning behind intrusive thoughts is the first step toward resolving the underlying issues driving them.
