What happened in this episode?
In this short clip-based episode of The Fallen State, host Jesse Lee Peterson repeatedly asks guest Dr Tiffanie to explain “what’s wrong with the blacks”, asserting that Black people are “angry and violent”, “have no love”, and blame white people for their circumstances. Dr Tiffanie rejects the premise, saying “there’s nothing wrong with black people”, and argues that frustration in Black communities is linked to socio-economic factors, including underfunded schools, limited resources, and what she characterises as political “rollbacks of rights” and an “erasure” of history.
The conversation moves to affirmative action and DEI. Dr Tiffanie says she earned admission to UC Santa Barbara and recalls being the only Black student in a class of 500, adding that UCSB’s Black enrolment was around 3% and that some considered that “too many” around the time affirmative action was repealed in California. Peterson argues affirmative action harms Black students and unfairly displaces white applicants, and questions why Black communities did not simply build their own institutions.
Later, the pair clash over welfare, family structure, and household economics, including childcare costs and whether women should stay at home. The discussion ends with an argument over whether racism exists: Dr Tiffanie says it does and links it to power, while Peterson insists racism “cannot exist” and reframes the issue as spiritual warfare, criticising her for using the term at all.
