What happened in this episode?
Max Blumenthal tells Tucker Carlson he was detained by US Customs and Border Protection after returning from reporting in Iran, and says agents seized his phones and pressed him for passcodes, claiming they were checking for “CSM”. He says he has brought a lawsuit, and alleges a judge indicated his Fourth Amendment rights were violated and ordered the government to provide discovery explaining what was done with his devices. Blumenthal frames the incident as retaliation for reporting that contradicts pro-Israel narratives, alleging online targeting by Laura Loomer and groups he describes as linked to Israel, including Canary Mission.
Blumenthal also claims US lawmakers Randy Fine, Randy Weber and Keith Self circulated a letter calling for him to be investigated, which he says cited his journalism rather than evidence of a crime. In a wider discussion, he repeats a contentious argument about 7 October, alleging Israel activated the “Hannibal directive” and killed some Israelis to prevent hostage-taking, citing Israeli reporting and testimony.
The conversation then broadens to claims of Israeli influence in US and UK politics and media. Blumenthal alleges an Israeli foreign-ministry contractor took over distribution of Charlie Kirk’s show via Salem Media, and claims pro-Israel organisations financially sponsor conservative media and political figures, including an allegation that Senator Ted Cruz benefited from Israel-linked advertising arrangements. Carlson and Blumenthal repeatedly characterise the Iran conflict as driven by Israeli priorities and argue it is fuelling domestic political instability and economic strain in the US.
